Small Jobs Landscaping was founded in 2010 as a way to combine Mark’s two passions: landscape design and working with youth. This odd combination is a natural fit for mark since he has spent the previous decade working with youth (homeless youth, youth with mental health concerns, youth in conflict with the law, etc.) and recognize the benefits that a stable job gives to a youth’s self-esteem; it can put them on the path to a healthy life!
Why landscaping? In 1997, Mark began his first of several summers working for a local landscaping company, putting his salary towards tuition for an undergraduate degree in Psychology. Every summer he returned to landscaping, learning the trade and honing his skills. He moved to California where he earned a Master`s degree in Marriage, Family and Child Counselling (now known as Marriage and Family Therapy, MFT), all the while using his landscaping skills to pay for his education. Since then, friends and family continue to ask for help with landscaping advice and labour, as their “small jobs” often leaving them feeling strapped for time, inspiration and money. Mark began asking young people to work along with him on these various projects, investing in with new skills and pocket money.
In 2015 Mark became a Registered Psychotherapist and continued to grow his clinical career as well as Small Jobs Landscaping.
After 12 years of serving the community with Small Jobs Landscaping, Mark has made the decision to focus on his clinical career and close the company he started. It has been a great journey and we are so pleased with the work and the reputation we have done in the community.
Thank you to all those who have worked for us, utilized our services and referred us to friends and family.
2013 mark’s the first year for Small Jobs Landscaping giving back to the community through the revitalization of outdoor spaces. Every year Small Jobs Landscaping will select a charitable organization and revitalize their outdoor space through a rejuvenation project.
